Installing Unreal Engine

It's time to get your game development journey started!

The first thing we'll need to do is install Unreal Engine on your computer, we've put together this quick guide. Installing Unreal Engine should only take around 5 minutes.

Step 1: Check System Requirements

Before you start, make sure that your computer meets the minimum system requirements for Unreal Engine 5. These are the following requirements for Windows:

  • A 64-bit version of Windows 10
  • An Intel Core i5-6600K or AMD Ryzen 5 1600 processor or higher
  • 16 GB of RAM or higher
  • A DirectX 12 compatible video card with at least 4 GB of VRAM
  • 100 GB of free disk space

For macOS:

  • A macOS High Sierra (10.13.6) or newer
  • An Intel i5 Quad-Core processor or higher
  • 16 GB of RAM or higher
  • A Metal-capable video card with at least 4 GB of VRAM
  • 100 GB of free disk space

Step 2: Create an Epic Games Account

You will need to create an Epic Games account in order to download and install Unreal Engine 5. You can create one for free on the Epic Games website.

Step 3: Download and Install the Epic Games Launcher

After creating an Epic Games account, you will need to download and install the Epic Games Launcher from the Epic Games website. Once it's downloaded, run the installer and follow the on-screen instructions.

Step 4: Install Unreal Engine 5

Once you've installed the Epic Games Launcher, open it and log in with your Epic Games account. From the Launcher, navigate to the Unreal Engine tab and click on the Install button. Select Unreal Engine 5 from the list of available versions and choose the installation path where you want the engine to be installed. The installation process may take a while, so be patient.
